The Kubota L3540 is a more powerful version of the Kubota L3240 compact tractor, but it’s not quite as powerful as the likes of the Kubota L3940 tractor. The engine powering the L 3540 tractor is a 4 stroke E-TVCS  vertically aligned engine. This engine has a maximum gross power output of 37 hp and a net power output of 35 hp. The engine is naturally aspirated and has 3 cylinders. The total size of the engine comes to 1.826 liters. The engine is key started using a 12 volt battery supplying 582 cold cranking amps. This battery is then recharged via a 40 amp alternator. The fuel tank supplying the engine can hold up to 44 liters (11.6 US gallons) of diesel.

There is a choice of transmission which transfers power from the engine to the wheels. One choice is the GST gearbox which gives the tractor 12 gears traveling forwards and 8 for reversing. This gives the Kubota L3540 a top speed of 26.6 kph (16.5 mph). The other choice of gearbox is a HST Plus transmission which gives the tractor infinite speeds over 3 ranges. This transmission gives the L 3540 a max speed of 25.3 kph (15.7 mph). Most people prefer the HST Plus due to the fact that it means less gear changing during operation.

The total length of the Kubota L3540 is 2.92 m (115 inches). It is 1.52 m (59.8 inches) wide and has a wheelbase of 1.81 (71 inches) which makes it very steady even on rough ground. When traveling over rough ground you will find controlling the L 3540 fairly easy thanks to hydraulic power steering. It also comes with a roll bar (ROPS) which is foldable to make storage and operation in low ceiling sheds easy. Depending on the which transmission is being used and whether or not there is a cab on the tractor, it’s weight varies from 1495 kg (3296 lbs) to 1700 kg (3748 lbs). This tractor can accommodate snow blowers, front blades, a loader, a backhoe and many other implements.
