The Kubota L3240 compact tractor is from the Kubota Grand L40 range of compact tractors. Larger and more powerful models in the L 40 series include the Kubota L3540 and the Kubota L3940 compact tractors. The L3240 is powered by a E-TVCS diesel engine. This engine uses indirect injection and is vertically aligned. The engine has a max power output of 35 hp and a PTO output that varies between 25 hp and 26.5 hp depending on the the transmission that the L 3240 is using. The 3 cylinder engine has a displacement of 1.647 liters and a rated speed of 2700 rpm.

There is a choice of transmission systems on the Kubota L3240 depending on the chassis (2WD or 4WD) as well as other variables. One transmission system is an FST which gives it 8 speeds traveling forwards and 8 in reverse also. Another is the GST transmission which gives it 12 speeds traveling forwards and 8 for reversing. The GST transmission gives the L 3240 a top speed of 26.6 kph (16.5 mph). The last transmission choice is a HST Plus gearbox that gives the tractor infinite speeds over 3 ranges (Hi, Medium and Lo). This gives the tractor a top speed of 25.3 kph (15.7 mph). The wheelbase of the tractor measures 1.81 m (71.2 inches).

The total weight of the Kubota L3240 varies as there are a number of different chassis (2WD/4WD) combinations and transmission combinations. The lightest combination weighs in at 1430 kg (3153 lbs) while the heaviest combination tips the scales at 1700 kg (3748 lbs). The minimum turning radius of the L3240 is 2.7 m when the 4WD is disengaged on the 4WD models and the brakes are being use, while on the 2WD model, it has a minimum turning radius of 2.6 m.
