The John Deere 50 tractor is a highly sought after antique tractor. This machine has not been produced since 1956 when it superseded the John Deere B tractor. The JD 50 had a number of engine choices when you were originally buying it. All these engines were quite similar; twin cylinder, liquid cooled models that have a displacement of 3.1 liters. The main difference between them is the fuel that they take. One takes gasoline, one takes LP gas and the third engine is an all-fuel model. The max power output from the engines is 32 hp. The tractor uses a fairly standard gearbox that gives it 6 speeds going forward and a single gear for reversing.

The tractor has an operating weight of 2202 kg (4855 lbs), while it can be ballasted safely up to 2494 kg (5500 lbs). The wheels supporting this weight are fairly narrow when compared to today’s tractors. The rear wheels are 10-38 (10 inch width, 38 inch rim diameter), while the front wheels measure 5.5-16 (5.5 inch width, 16 inch rim diameter). The widest point on the John Deere 50 is 2.2 m (86.6 inches) while at it’s highest point, it measures 1.51 m (59.8 inches).

On many John Deere 50 tractors today, you will see modified or improvised roll bars that have been welded or bolted on although these can’t always to guaranteed to always do their job in the event that the tractor does tip. The fuel tank that comes with the tractor as standard can hold up to 58.7 liters (15.5 US gallons). The JD 50 was replaced with the John Deere 520 tractor. There are a number of models in the series that includes the 60. These include the larger John Deere 60 and the John Deere 70 tractors as well as the smaller John Deere 40 tractor.
