John Deere 520
The John Deere 520 tractor is part of a series of tractors that also includes the smaller John Deere 320 and theĀ John Deere 420 tractors as well as the larger and more powerful John Deere 620 tractor. Like the JD 420, the JD 520 has 3 different engine choices. Each of the 3 engines are very similar in that they are all liquid cooled. They also all have the same displacement of 3.1 liters. Each of the three engines are naturally aspirated and have 2 cylinders. The engines however differ by what fuel they take. One takes all fuel, the next takes gasoline and the last takes LP gas.
The John Deere 520 tractor then uses an unsynchronized gear box with a dry disc clutch which gives gives it 6 speeds going forwards and 1 speed for when it’s reversing. It’s top speed is 16.1 kph (10 mph). The capacity of the fuel tank on the JD 520 varies depending on what engine you are using. The gasoline engine model comes with a fuel tank that can hold up to 68.1 liters (18 US gallons), while the all fuel model has a tank that can hold 58.7 liters (15.5 US gallons). The LP gas model tank holds 124.9 liters (33 US gallons). The hydraulics system on this tractor has a capacity to hold up to 9.5 liters (2.5 US gallons) of hydraulic fluid.
The rear hitch on the John Deere 520 is a category 2, making it capable of taking a massive range of different attachments. The JD 520 is specifically a row crop tractor with narrow front axle. The front wheels measure 5.5-16 (5.5 inch width, 16 inch rim diameter) and the rear wheels measure 12.4-36 (12.4 inch width, 36 inch rim diameter). The wheelbase of this tractor is 2.28 m (90 inches). The driver controls the speed of the tractor with the use of a differential expanding shoe braking system.
