John Deere 220C
The John Deere 220C golf green lawn mower is self propelled. It’s very similar to both the John Deere 180C and the John Deere 220 E-Cut Hybrid walk behind lawn mowers. You may notice that the JD 220 C is a good bit more expensive than ‘regular’ walk behind lawnmowers like the John Deere JS26 and John Deere JS36 mowers. This is simply because the 220C is designed to be much more precise. The engine powering it is a Honda GX120. This is a gasoline powered engine that is prevented from overheating thanks to an air cooling system. The engine is a 4 stroke with a total displacement of 0.118 liters. The max output from the engine comes to 3.5 hp.
Rather than using a rotary blade like you find on regular lawn mowers, the John Deere 220C has a rotating cylinder or reel which gives a far superior cut to the green than a blade ever could. The cutting width of the reel is 22 inches. It has a 5 inch diameter. In total the reel has 11 different blades attached to it. These blades are made from a heat treated steel which means that they maintain their strength and sharpness for longer. Once the grass is cut, it’s then passed into a grass collector on the front of the lawn mower. The grass collector is made from plastic.
The total weight of the John Deere 220C comes to 99.5 kg (219 lbs) which is fairly light considering it has a total cutting width of 22 inches. The total width is a lot larger than the cutting width at 37.3 inches. Before the grass is cut, it is rolled by a steel roller that has a diameter of 0.06 m. After the grass is cut, it’s rolled with an aluminum roller that has a diameter of 0.19 m.
