Massey Ferguson 390
The Massey Ferguson 390 is a part of the same series of tractors as the Massey Ferguson 399, they are both from the Massey Ferguson 300 series. This series of MF tractors proved to be extremely popular and as such continued to roll off the production line for more than 10 years from 1986, until production ceased in 1997. The MF 390 came out of the factory with a Perkins A4.248 diesel, natural aspiration engine. This 4 cylinder engine uses a liquid cooling system that needs 15.1 liters of coolant to fully fill if from scratch. The engine is obviously smaller than it’s bigger brother, the Massey Ferguson 399 and has a power output of 81 hp. This Perkins engine requires 7.6 liters of oil to keep it properly lubricated if filling it from empty.
There is a choice of 3 transmissions on the Massey Ferguson 390. The first gives the tractor 8 gears going forward and 2 in reverse, the second is a Multi-Power, partial shift transmission that gives it 12 gears for traveling forward and 4 when it’s reversing. The last transmission is a synchromesh transmission that also gives the MF 390 12 speeds while traveling forward and 4 in reverse.
The engine on the Massey Ferguson 390 sits on a choice of either a 4×2 2WD or a 4×4 MFWD 4WD chassis. As each chassis has different dimensions, the overall dimensions of the tractor also vary. The MF 390 with the 4×2 2WD chassis weighs in at 2746 kg (6055 lbs), has a wheelbase of 2.13 m (84.1 inches) and measures 3.66 m (144.4 inches) long. It has a ground clearance of 0.25 m (10 inches). The MF 390 4WD model is much heavier, weighing in at 3295 kg (7266 lbs), has a wheelbase of 2.34 m (92.5 inches) and measures 3.88m (152.8 inches) long. The ground clearance of the 4WD version is slightly bigger at 0.33 m (13 inches). The great thing about the Massey Ferguson 390 is that it is compatible with a large number of attachments. It can accommodate many at the back as well as many front end loaders, such as the Massey Ferguson 838 front end loader.
