The John Deere 7G18 walk behind, self propelled lawn mower get it’s power from a Command engine that has been designed an built by Kohler. The air cooled engine has a displacement of 0.49 liters. The power output from the engine comes in at 18 hp and it’s gasoline powered. The fuel tank powering the engine is very large, capable of holding up to 18.9 liters (5 US gallons) of gasoline, which means that you won’t be constantly refilling it even during heavy periods of operation. The engine is lubricated by a full pressure lubrication system. Unfortunately it’s not key started, but instead is started by a pull cord, recoil mechanism.

Rather than just having one forward gear and no gears for reversing the John Deere 7G18 is actually quite sophisticated. It has a 5 speed transmission for traveling forwards and one speed for reversing. Some will find it interesting that the top speed of the JD 7G18 comes in at 11.3 kph (7 mph) when traveling forwards, which would mean that the operator would have to be jogging just to keep up with it. When reversing, it’s also quite nippy, clocking a top speed of 4.8 kph (3 mph).

The rear turf wheels on the John Deere 7G18 offer fantastic traction and are quite large, which means that will almost never leave a thread mark, even on very soft ground. They measure 16×6.5-8 (16 inch diameter, 6.5 inch width, 8 inch rim diameter). The 48 inch mower deck on the JD 7G18 is from the 7 Iron II commercial deck series, so it’s constructed from a single continuous sheet of 7 gauge steel to offer enhanced durability. Even though the cutting width of the JD G18 is 48 inches, it’s total width is actually 62 inches when the discharge chute is down. Similar models to this one include the John Deere G15 and the John Deere WG32A self propelled lawnmowers.
