John Deere 7520
The John Deere 7520 tractor is a very large machine. It was built as the larger version of the John Deere 7020 tractor. The JD 7520 tractor is built so that it can easily accommodate dual wheels for extra grip. This tractor was built in JD’s Waterloo plant which is located in Iowa. The tractor was massive for the time (’72-’75). It’s total weight comes in at 10,124 kg (22,320 lbs) while it has a very large wheelbase of 3.04 m (120 inches). All four wheels on the tractor are the same size. The 2 standard sizes that you can choose from is either 18.4-34 (18.4 inch width, 34 inch rim diameter) or 23.1-30 (23.1 inch width, 30 inch rim diameter).
The engine powering the John Deere 7520 is designed and built in house by JD themselves. This engine is a turbocharged diesel that has a very large displacement of 8.7 liters. The engine is liquid cooled and in total has 6 cylinders. The engine in the JD 7520 uses an aspirator along with a dual paper air filter to clean the air intake of dust and other particulate matter. This engine fires at a compression ratio of 15.4-to-1. The engine is fed with diesel from a 416.4 liter (110 US gallon) fuel tank. It’s max power output comes to 175 hp.
The John Deere 7520 comes with a choice of 2 different gearboxes. Either a Syncro-Range Hi-Lo gearbox that gives it 16 speeds going forwards and 4 for reversing or a regular Syncro range gearbox that gives it 8 gears going forward and 2 for reversing. The JD 7520 was replaced in 1975 by the John Deere 8630 tractor.
