John Deere 3720
The John Deere 3720 compact utility tractor is the largest machine in the 3000 series from JD. Smaller models include the John Deere 3520 compact tractor and the John Deere 3320 utility tractor. The JD 3720 gets it’s power from a Yanmar 3 cylinder engine that produces a very decent 44 hp. The engine is diesel powered and is also supercharged (no wonder they get so much power out of a displacement of just 1.5 liters). The engine is liquid cooled by a cooling system that can hold up to 7.2 liters of water. Power from the engine is transferred to the wheels through a one of 2 different transmission systems. The first choice is a Sauer-Danfoss eHydro transmission. This is a hydrostatic that provides the JD 3720 with infinite speed over 3 ranges. The second choice is a eHydro AutoHST. This is also a hydrostatic transmission that provides the machine with infinite speeds over 3 ranges.
As the John Deere 3720 is on the large end of the scale, it’s not very often that you’ll find it in use on small gardens. It’s much more likely to be seen in use by commercial landscapers or even by small farmers. It’s still very versatile due to all the attachments it can accommodate (snow blowers, snow blades, rotary brooms, scrapers, sprayers, scarifiers, loaders and backhoes), but due to it’s size and power, it’s makes much more sense to only use a machine like this where it’s full power can be utilized (i.e. large projects).
The John Deere 3720 is quite heavy. If you buy the machine with the standard cab, it will weigh in at 1619 kg (3570 lbs) while without the cab (but with a ROPS), it weighs in at 1315 kg (2900 lbs). The engine on the JD 3720 is started with a 12 volt battery providing 500 cold cranking amps which is then recharged using either a 40 amp or 75 amp alternator.
