    The Cub Cadet Tank M54-KW zero turn lawn mower is very similar to the Cub Cadet Tank M54-KH in many ways as they both have the same cutting width. However the main difference between the two machines is the engine. The M54-KW Tank is powered by a twin cylinder Kawasaki. This engine has overhead valves and has a total displacement of 0.675 liters. The engine gets gasoline from a set of 2 gas tanks that can hold a combined 53 liters (14 US gallons). The engine is kept cool thanks to an air cooling system. The engine purges the air intake of particulate matter and dust using a dual element, heavy duty air filter. The engine is key started using a 12 volt battery and this battery gets recharged by a 15 amp alternator once the engine is running.

    Power from the engine reaches the wheels on the Cub Cadet Tank M54-KW thanks to a hydrostatic transmission system that is composed of dual Hydro-Gear PK-12 pumps together with White wheel motors. This allows the operator to control the rear wheels through the lap bars in front of him. Going forwards, the Tank M54 KW has a top speed of 19.3 kph (12 mph). The M54-KW uses a dynamic braking system to slow down. The rear wheels which are responsible for for both steering and driving the lawn mower forwards are the largest, each measuring 24×12-12 (24 inch diameter, 12 inch width, 12 inch rim diameter).  The front wheels do far less work and their main function is to allow the lawnmower to turn easily. These each measure 13×6.5-6 (13 inch diameter, 6.5 inch width, 6 inch rim diameter).

    The mower deck on the Cub Cadet Tank M54-KW has a cutting width that comes in at 54 inches. This deck on the Tank M54-KW has 3 blades inside it and is made from 10 gauge steel although it is reinforced in places with 7 gauge steel.

      I can’t say enough good things about my Cub Cadet Commercial M54 Tank W/23 HP Kawasaki Mower & W/ Trac-Vac 462Z. It really is a overkill for one acre of land. However, With all the trees I have it really makes my life easier. I have added options to suit my needs. Not everyone would agree. I am very pleased with my 2001 Version. You take care of your machine and it will provide you with years of satisfactory service.

      Pros: My M54 Tank is a Very Fast Machine & Powerful.
      Heavy Duty Built all throughout.The newer versions in my opinion are made with cheaper materials but not cheaply priced. You won’t find plastic fans on the hydro system in this years version. Everything was solid metal. I have seen every new years version of tanks since I bought mine. To me Cub Cadet Commercial has made them less sturdy, thinner gage metal with a lot more of reinforced welded wedges. Much more use of plastic components. Maybe it has to do with the ecomomy I don’t know. I have noticed more people complaining about their newer Tank versions. Not me. I am a very satisfied customer.
      Cons: This years version was so heavy make sure you are rolling when you turn otherwise the tires will rip up your grass.
      Mower deck is so heavy it takes foot pedal power plus arm pulling strength to raise or lower the deck into position. I believe a Hydraulic lift option was available later it should have been standard. No roll bar for this year. Every 25 Hours of use I have to grease 22 Zerk fittings its like playing “twister” the game. You got to bend in every direction to reach all 22 grease fittings its a pain but I’m glad when it over.
      Attachments: I purchased a Track-Vac system with it own powered IC Briggs & Stratton motor. Model 462Z
      I added a standard 1″ Quick release trailer hitch system. I now can pull my Cub Cadet Log splitter or a trailer.
      Front support system for Billy Goat Blower.
      Modifications: This commercial mower is fantastic with leaf removal. The Track-Vac works great with this mower. I added a special attachment to the front of my Tank this allows me to add my 5HP Billy Goat lawn blower. I can run my Tank around in circles blowing all the leaves in a high pile. I then dismount disengage the quick release removing the Track-Vac’s intake from the mowing deck laying it on the ground I then rake the leaves into the Vacuume of the Track-Vac which shreds the leaves 12 to 1 ratio. that like stuffing 12 bags of leaves in just one bag. This set-up is not cheap but it is very fast and enjoyable. I will add a auxiliary light in the back so I can work late in the dark come fall. I have added the headlamps with this Tank they really help at night. I was fortunate to add the METAL cupholder option when I did. Now all the cup holders are plastic. My neighbor already busted his plastic one now he is eye balling mine.
