The Cub Cadet LT1042 garden tractor lawn mower is powered by a SV 590 Courage engine from Kohler. This engine is gasoline powered and has a max power output of 19 hp. This engine houses just one cylinder which has a total displacement of 0.597 liters. The engine uses a standard type air filter to prevent dust and other particles from getting into the combustion chamber and potentially clogging it. The engine is keystarted by a 12V battery that provides the engine with 190 cold cranking amps. This 12 volt battery also powers the incandescent headlights that come with the LT 1042 as standard. The battery gets recharged thanks to a 16 amp alternator.

The Kohler Courage SV590 powers the rear wheels on the Cub Cadet LT1042 by transmitting power through a Hydro-Gear transmission that makes it an automatic. This means that it’s speed is controlled via a foot pedal accelerator with no gear changing to worry about. The dry disc brakes which control the LT1042’s speed are also pedal operated.

The mower deck on the Cub Cadet LT1042 has a cutting width of 42 inches, which you can hopefully ascertain from the name. This deck is fairly standard with a discharge opening protected with a plastic discharge chute on the right hand side of the mower deck. There is also the option of a mulching system as well as a rear bagger attachment to collect the clippings after they’ve been cut. There are a number of different models to the LT 1042 garden tractor lawn mower from the same range that includes the larger Cub Cadet LT1050, Cub Cadet LT1046 and Cub Cadet LT1045 models as well as the smaller Cub Cadet LT1040 garden tractor lawnmower. Unfortunately the Cub Cadet LT 1042 lawn mower is no longer produced by Cub Cadet.
