The Craftsman DGT4000 garden tractor is not the most well known machine from the guys at Craftsman. The engine that powers it is a very big indeed. It’s a 27 hp Kohler. This gasoline powered engine has twin cylinders. The engine uses a fully pressurized lubrication system to keep it working smoothly and stop it from wearing too much during operation. The engine uses a cartridge air filter to prevent dust and other particulate matter from getting into the combustion chambers and potentially disrupting the firing process. The DGT 4000 uses a hydrostatic transmission which makes it an automatic lawnmower. This means that there is no gear changing on it. Instead, to speed up and slow down, you just need to use the foot pedal accelerator.

The mower deck on the Craftsman DGT4000 tractor lawnmower is quite big, with a cutting width of 48 inches. The total width of the deck is actually closer to 60 inches due to the large protective plastic discharge flap on the side of the deck. Attached to the outer extremities of the mower deck on the DGT 4000 is 4 small plastic anti scalping wheels. These force the deck to follow the contours of the ground you are traveling over it so that there is no chance of the blades possibly cutting into the ground and leaving ugly scars. While many people just allow the grass clippings to lie on the lawn after cutting it, many purchase the optional bagger attachment to collect them and make their lawn look a whole lot neater.
