The Troy Bilt Colt is a zero turn lawn mower offered by Troy Bilt. While Troy Bilt is well known for making garden tractor lawn mowers, few people realize that they also manufacture zero turn lawnmowers like the Colt and Troy Bilt Mustang as well. The Colt zero turn lawnmower is powered by a 20 hp Courage engine which is made by Kohler. This Kohler engine transfers power to the wheels of the Colt through a dual hydrostatic transmission. This allows the operator to control each rear wheel independent of the other using the lap bars in front of him. There is no steering wheel on the Colt. By pushing each lap bar in different directions (one forwards, while the other one is pushed backwards), you are able to execute zero radius turns.

Power from the engine is transferred to the blades of the mower deck through an electric PTO. The mower deck has a cutting width of 42 inches and consists of 2 blades discharging the cut grass out the side of the deck. The rear wheels on the Troy Bilt Colt are simply castor wheels, whose only function is to keep the deck from hitting the ground. These are far smaller and offer no grip as the rear wheels are responsible for both powering the Colt and steering it.

Even thought the Troy Bilt Colt is a zero turn lawn mower, it can still accommodate a good few different attachments. The most useful of these is a rear bagger which collects the grass clippings to leave your lawn looking very neat. There is also a mulching kit which quickly turns the grass clippings into a fast rotting mulch. The great thing about the Colt is that it’s built on a fully welded steel frame which means that it’s very unlikely to break or get seriously damaged.
