Simplicity Cobalt
The Simplicity Cobalt zero turn mower is the the largest and most powerful zero turn mower than the team at Simplicity produce. If you are looking for something a little less powerful and with a narrower cutting width, then you may be interested in checking out the Simplicity Champion, Simplicity ZT4000 or the Simplicity Citation lawnmowers. The Cobalt gets it’s power from a Vanguard Big Block engine that is designed and built by Briggs and Stratton. The 2 cylinder engine has an output of 30 hp. The engine is keystarted with the help of a 12 volt battery that produces 340 cold cranking amps. The engine draws fuel from a tank that can hold up to 37.9 liters (10 US gallons) of gas. A fuel tank this size indicates that this lawnmower is usually used by commercial garden contractors and landscapers as opposed to individual home owners.
The power from the engine on the Simplicity Cobalt is then transferred to the rear wheels through a dual hydrostatic Hydro-Gear transmission. This gearbox gives the lawnmower infinite speeds traveling forwards as well as infinite speeds in reverse. More importantly, this transmission gives the Cobalt the ability to control the speed and direction of each rear wheel independent of the other, which is what allows it to execute zero radius turns.
The mower deck on the Simplicity Cobalt has a decent cutting width of 61 inches. It has a rear roller system to flatten the grass right after it cuts it which leaves a very pleasing and neat look to the lawn. The mower deck on the Cobalt can be adjusted from a low of just 1.75 inches above the ground to a high of 5 inches above the ground in 0.25 inch increments which allows the operator to almost always get the cutting height they want.
