The Massey Ferguson 8480 is a massive and powerful pulling tractor from MF. It is the largest tractor in the MF 8400 series (it’s little brothers being the Massey Ferguson 8470, the Massey Ferguson 8460 and the Massey Ferguson 8450).x It has been in production since 2004 and is highly favored among farmers who need a powerful tractor capable of pulling incredibly heavy loads. The engine that comes with the MF 8480 as standard is a Sisu, turbocharged diesel engine. This 6 cylinder, 8.4 liter engine produces a massive 290 hp and use a liquid intercooling system to prevent the engine from ever over heating. It uses a dual paper air filter to clean the air intake. To start the engine the MF 8480 uses a Thermostart ignition.This engine is supported on a 4×4 MFWD 4WD chassis.

New owners have a choice of transmissions when purchasing the Massey Ferguson 8480 new. They can opt for a DynaStep transmission that will give you 21 forward gears and 18 gears when reversing. Or they can opt for a Dyna-VT transmission that gives the operator an infinite number of forward and reversing gears. As the engine is so massive, you would be right in thinking that it burns through fuel. As such it also needs a large diesel tank. The tank can hold a massive 600 liters (158.5 US gallons) of diesel when filled from empty. This will allow operators to go for incredibly long periods of operation without having to worry about the need to fill ‘er up.

As you could probably imagine, the 3 point hitch that comes with the Massey Ferguson 8480 is very strong and is a category 3, 3 point hitch that has a rear lifting capacity of 6531 kg (14400 lbs). The MF 8480 obviously needs strong breaks when pulling very heavy loads and so uses independent hydraulic wet disc brakes to make sure that it never gets out of control. The tractor weighs in at 9049 kg (19951 lbs) when being shipped. This increases to 9239 kg (20370 lbs) when it’s fully operational. But it’s maximum safe operating weight when fully ballasted is 14465 kg (31890 lbs). The length of the tractor comes in at 5.23 m (206 inches). This tractor comes with a cab as standard.
