The Kubota L4240 tractor is one of the mid sized models from the Kubota L40 range of compact utility tractors. It has an engine that produces 44 gross horsepower and 42 net horsepower. This is a liquid cooled E-TVCS engine. The engine in the L 4240 is a diesel and is fueled from a tank that can hold up to 50 liters (13.2 US gallons) of diesel. The engine provides up to 36.5 hp to the PTO. It’s naturally aspirated and has a rated speed of 2700 rpm. The total size of this 4 cylinder engine is 2.197 liters. To start the engine you simply need to turn the key in the ignition and the 12 volt battery will provide 582 cold cranking amps to the engine

The Kubota L4240 has the choice of 3 different gearboxes when you are first buying it. The most convenient transmission is the HST Plus which gives the L4240 infinite speeds over 3 different ranges. This gearbox gives the tractor a top speed of 25.8 kph (16 mph). Another choice is the GST gearbox which gives the tractor 12 speeds going forward and 8 for reversing. This gearbox gives the compact utility tractor a top speed of 27 kph (16.8 mph) when traveling forwards. The last choice of gearbox is the FST which gives it 8 speeds going forward and 8 speeds in reverse.

The Kubota L4240 compact utility tractor is great in areas where larger less mobile tractors would have trouble. It’s just over 3 m long at 3.09 m (121.5 inches). It’s wheelbase is 1.9 m (74.8 inches) and it’s width comes in at 1.69 m (66.5 inches) which makes the L4240 very stable. Add in the fact that it has hydrostatic power steering and you’ve got a machine that is comfortable to use on even the roughest of ground. There is also a category 1, 3 point hitch on the rear of the tractor which means that you can easily attach a large range of different implements to it.
