John Deere Z850A
The John Deere Z850A zero turn lawn mower is the mac daddy of the Pro 800 Series from John Deere. Some of the smaller models in the Pro 800 Series include the John Deere Z820A, the John Deere Z830A and the John Deere Z840A zero turn lawn mowers. The engine that powers the JD Z580A is a Kawasaki FX 850V that produces 31 hp to power both the blades and wheels. This Kawasaki engine has a total displacement of 0.852 liters. It’s an air cooled engine that has a full pressure lubrication system which holds up to 1.9 liters of oil. The air intake into the engine gets passed through a heavy duty canister type air filter after it first passes through a pre cleaner to make sure nothing but air enters into the combustion chamber.
Power from the engine on the John Deere Z850A mower gets passed to the rear wheels through a Parker heavy duty ground drive system. This gives the JD Z850A infinite speeds going forwards as well as when it’s reversing. The speed and direction of the machine is controlled through the lap bars in front of the driver (there is no steering wheel). Providing each rear wheel with different amounts of power is what allows it to make turns. The top speed of the JD Z580A going forwards is 19.3 kph (12 mph) while it’s also quite nippy when reversing at 8 kph (5 mph).
The are quite a few different mowing decks that are compatible with the John Deere Z850A, some of which have mulch on demand capability. There are 2 different sizes available, the smaller has a cutting width of 60 inches, while the larger deck has a cutting width of 72 inches. Have you ever used the Z850A? If so then please leave you thoughts on it below to give others an idea of what to expect.
