John Deere LX280

Just like the John Deere LX277 lawnmower, there are 2 versions of the John Deere LX280. The regular version and the John Deere LX280AWS which is an all wheel steering model. The main differences between the regular model and the AWS model is their weight (although a lot of their dimensions are also quite different). The weight of the regular JD LX280 comes in at 220 kg (487 lbs), while the weight of the JD LX280AWS is much higher, tipping the scales at 254 kg (560 lbs). However, pretty much everything else about them is very similar. The only other thing to differentiate between the 2 models is that thanks to it’s all wheel steering, the John Deere LX280AWS is much more maneuverable in tight areas where you might otherwise be confined if you were using the regular model.

The John Deere LX280 measures 1.7 m (67 inches), however the John Deere LX280AWS is a little longer, measuring 1.77 m (70 inches) long. Both versions of the JD LX280 are much liked by landscapers and professional garden contractors due to the fact that they come with cruise control as standard. This means that you don’t have to work as hard when you are cutting grass on playing fields and parks. They also both have hydrostatic transmissions, so you never need to change gears. Instead they use John Deere’s Twin Touch technology which means that you just have 2 pedals, one for traveling forwards and one for reversing, easy!

If you are looking for the serial number on the John Deere LX280, then you can find it just ahead of the foot platform on the right hand side of the machine. Many people are particularly fond of the John Deere LX280 lawnmower due to the fact that it’s just so versatile. It’s not only good for cutting your lawn, you can also attach a front blade or snowblower to it to clear your driveway of snow.

One Review of the “John Deere LX280”

  1. elmer says:

    One heckuva mower.
    Easy to start and operate.
    Very strong and dependable.

    Year of Manufacture: 2005
Pros: I mow 5 plus acres with the 48″ LX280.
    It is very smooth.
    Cuts even.
Will tackle tall weeds and grass, just be patient with it.
Cons: I have not had any problems yet.
The battery costs around $120, and it looks like parts are pricey, but I guess that is to be expected.
Modifications: I use a bungee cord on the plastic where the grass flies out, to be able to lift when going around trees on that side.
