Few people realize that the LESCO brand of lawnmower is actually a subsidiary of John Deere. The engine powering the John Deere LESCO WL90B is a Kawasaki FH430V. This engine is air cooled and has a full pressure lubrication system to keep the working parts from seizing up or wearing during operation. The twin cylinder engine has a maximum power output of 15 hp and runs on unleaded gasoline. The air intake is first passed through a dual element air filter to make sure that it’s clean entering the combustion chamber.

The engine on the John Deere LESCO WL90B transfers power to the wheels through a Hydro-Gear hydrostatic transmission that makes this lawnmower an automatic with no need for gear changing. The transmission gives the JD WL90B a very impressive top speed of 11.3 kph (7 mph) and allows it to reverse at up to 4.8 kph (3 mph) which is also very impressive. However it’s worth bearing in mind that although 7 mph is fast, you will have to run just as fast to keep up with it due to the fact that this is a walk behind lawn mower, not a ride on/tractor mower.

The John Deere LESCO WL90B has a mower deck with a cutting width of 36 inches. This mower deck has a 4 inch range from 1 inch above the ground up to 5 inches above the ground. It can be adjusted in 0.25 inch increments to give the operator a very precise cut. The total weight of the machine comes to 321.1 kg (708 lbs) which seems quite heavy for a walk behind lawnmower, but when you consider the fact that it’s a commercial machine, it’s fairly understandable.
