John Deere LESCO WL85B
The John Deere LESCO WL85B gets all of it’s power from a 2 cylinder Kawasaki FH 430V engine. This air cooled engine has a total displacement of 0.431 liters. The crankshaft on this walk behind, self propelled lawn mower is aligned vertically. The engine in the JD LESCO WL85B is gasoline powered and fed with gas from a large fuel tank that has a maximum capacity of 18.9 liters (5 US gallons). The full pressure lubrication system prevents the engine from wear and tear by keeping the moving parts constantly oiled.
The engine on the John Deere LESCO WL85B passes power to the wheels through a Peerless transmission that gives the lawnmower 5 gears moving forwards and 1 gear for assisting in reversing. This transmission gives the LESCO W85B a top speed of 8.7 kph (5.4 mph) when traveling forward which is fast enough to have the operator almost jogging just to keep up with the machine. Unlike the majority of self propelled lawn mowers that have the engine and mower controls mounted on a long handle bar, the controls on the JD WL85B are just 2 pistol grips, there is no bar.
The mower deck on this lawnmower has a cutting width of 48 inches, which is pretty large considering this is just a walk behind lawnmower, not a ride on/tractor. The mower deck can be lowered to within 1.5 inches above the ground and raised up to 4.5 inches above the ground in 0.25 inch increments. The John Deere LESCO WL85B is one of the bigger machines available from the LESCO (which is owned by JD). Perhaps it’s too big for your needs. If this is the case, then you may be more interested in something smaller like the John Deere LESCO WL80B or the John Deere LESCO WL83B walk behind lawnmowers.
