John Deere LA155
The John Deere LA155 garden tractor lawn mower is a truly quality piece of machinery. Although not currently still in production by John Deere, you will still see these machines everywhere and looking brand new thanks to the fact that they only stopped getting made in 2010 (they started production in 2009, and so enjoyed a run of 2 years on the assembly lines). The JD LA155 is powered by a Briggs and Stratton 2 cylinder, V twin engine. This engine is 0.656 liters (40 cubic inches) in size and produces 22 hp to power the wheels and the blade. The engine is started by a 12 volt battery using a turn key ignition. This Briggs and Stratton is an Extended Life Series (ELS) engine which means that you are practically guaranteed a longer working life using this engine than a standard one with comparable power. Once the engine is running, a 16 amp alternator charges the battery.
Most people with moderate to large sized gardens really enjoy using this machine as the 48 inch mower deck quickly and easily handles a huge amount of grass. You’ll also be glad to know that the John Deere LA155 lawn mower comes with a safety video when you are purchasing it. This will help you to prevent any unwanted injuries as well as learning the best and most efficient ways to take care of the JD LA155.
The total weight of the John Deere LA155 comes to 236 kg (498 lbs) which may seem like a weight that will leave thread marks on your lawn. Luckily however, the tires are wide enough to spread the load without leaving marks. Each front wheel measures 15×6-6 (15 inch diameter, 6 inch width, 6 inch rim diameter), while each rear wheel measures 20×10-8 (20 inch diameter, 10 inch width, 8 inch rim diameter). If you are looking for something a little smaller to cut your lawn, then consider the John Deere LA145, while if it’s a bigger lawnmower you are after, then you might be interested in the John Deere LA165 mower.

Terrible.
Wish I could have afforded a 300-series.
Precise speed control.
1/4″ increments in cut height.
Tall seating position.
Requires long spin on the starter to pump fuel from the tank.
Difficult to monitor fuel level while filling.
Fairly thirsty.
Slow top speed.
Plastic hood scratches easily.
VERY meagre owners’ manual (comparing this to my last machine, a low-end MTD with “Transmatic” belt-controlled speed, with all parts pictured & identified in the manual – at less than half the price)
“Cruise” setting not very useful – speed drops substantially.
Would like to see interchangeable wheels with weights & winter tread.
Considering snow blade.
