John Deere LA130

The John Deere LA130 was one of the models from the 100 series of lawn mowers that John Deere produced during 2007 only. Smaller models include the John Deere LA110 and the John Deere LA120, while the John Deere LA140 is an example of a bigger version in the series. All of these models in the ‘100’ series were produced in the Horicon production facility in Wisconsin. The JD LA130 is built on a 4X2 2WD chassis which houses a Briggs and Stratton, gasoline (petrol) engine. This 2 cylinder, V twin has a displacement of 0.725 liters (44 cubic inches) and gives an output of 21 hp.The engine needs 1.9 liters of oil to maintain full functioning and adequate lubrication.

The John Deere LA130 has a hydrostatic transmission which makes operating it incredibly easy. There is absolutely no gear changing whatsoever. Instead you just have 2 pedals; forwards and backwards. This will allow the operator to work much longer without having to constantly worry about constantly shifting gears. The mid mounted mower deck has a cutting width of 1.21 m (48 inches), while the overall width of the JD LA130 comes to 1.54 m (60.5 inches).

The front wheels on the John Deere LA130 measure 16×6.5-8 (16 inch diameter, 6.5 inch width, 8 inch diameter rims), while the rear tires measure 22×9.5-12 (22 inch diameter, 9.5 inch width, 12 inch diameter rims). These wheels help to give the JD LA130 a turning radius of 0.46 m (18 inches) making it quite agile for a large lawnmower that tips the scales at 237 kg (524 lbs). Most people enjoy using this model thanks to the fact that it’s still a relatively new model which means that getting replacement parts for it is incredibly easy and practically hassle free.

Worked great for it’s short life.

    Year of Manufacture: 2008
Cons: Transaxle went out with 225 hours on mower. The rest of the mower like new but was told to junk it because of cost and a new transaxle would do the same. That was several years ago. Was looking for a used one but seems like like all of the juked ones had the same problem. I live in a hillie area and was told they are find on level ground.

Has no power when mowing up hill v twin motor vanguard 20 hp is no good.

    Year of Manufacture: 0
    Pros: 2007

  3. Mitchell says:

    Completely satisfied.

    Year of Manufacture: 0
Pros: Reliable and leaves a neat lawn. Purchased in August 2008 and now has more than 300 hours on it with only a deck belt replacement.
Cons: Grass builds up underdeck when moisture content of grass is high.

  4. Terry Burns says:

Average design to compete with the lesser expensive brands of Cub Cadets and Husqvarna’s that are out there. This was my first purchase of a John Deere. Will more than likely upgrade to a better model next time.

    Year of Manufacture: 2009
Pros: Reliable starting after 2 years service, above average power for 3 standard 1/2 acre lots, even with the grass getting long.. Ease of service with both engine and mowing deck. I like to do my own service work and found the engine very easy to work around and service.
Cons: Had to replace steering pinion gear and steering sector plate after only years of service. Mower deck belt had to be replaced after 1st use when bought new because deck pulley was out of alignment. .
Attachments: Poor design for leaf bagging system. After 1st bag fills the added weight sags the bracket and pulls the debris tube away from collection bags shooting grass clippings back at you while mowing.
