The John Deere JS45 self propelled, walk behind lawnmower is the biggest of the 3 different models in this series. The 2 smaller models are the John Deere JS35 walk behind lawnmower and the John Deere JS25 push lawn mower. While the JD JS45 uses the exact same engine as the other 2, a 4 stroke, Briggs and Stratton, it actually produces much more power at 8.75 ft-lbs. The engine both powers the wheels and the blade.

A number of safety features, enhance the John Deere JS45. To start it you need to be located behind the handlebars when pulling the recoil system helping wot prevent many mishaps. Unfortunately on the JD JS45, there is no key operated, electric starting motor. You will also notice that the minute you let go of the main handle, the engine cuts out and the blades lock into place. This is fantastic as it greatly reduces the risk of accidents during operation.

The front wheels on the John Deere JS45 also differ from the other models in the series. They are individually adjustable, but more importantly, the allow the JD JS45 to have a zero turn radius, making it incredibly agile around practically every garden. The mower deck is the same as the other models and has a cutting width of 21 inches. Once the grass is cut, the operator can then choose as to what happens next to the clippings. You can opt to mulch them up and return them to the ground to help feed the grass. Or you can send them flying out the side of the mower. However, what most people like to do is collect the grass clippings at the back of the lawnmower using a bagger.
