John Deere GT242
The John Deere GT242 is officially a part of the ‘GT’ series of lawnmowers. However the JD GT242 and the John Deere GT262 are were both built way before the likes of the John Deere GT 225, John Deere GT235 and John Deere GT245 lawnmowers started to roll off the production lines. The GT242 garden tractor is powered by a one cylinder, Kawasaki engine that is air cooled. This engine provides the machine with 14 hp in power. The engine is key started with a 12 volt battery. All production of this lawnmower took place in Horicon, Wisconsin between 1993 and 1998.
The transmission on the John Deere GT242 lawn mower driving the wheels is a manual 7 speed transmission (6 forward and 1 reverse). This 2WD machine has a fairly big turning radius of 0.51 m (20 inches). This means that operating it in a confined space will be fairly time consuming. In cases like this, you are much better off using a walk behind lawn mower.
The great thing about the John Deere GT242 lawnmower is that it can accommodate a wide range of different mower decks, ranging from a 38 inch mowing deck to a 54 inch mower deck. This John Deere lawnmower is fairly old (it hasn’t been produced by JD for over 10 years), so it’s important that if you are buying one secondhand you must check to make sure that it is in proper working order. It’s also a good idea to know of any problems it may be having so you can get them seen to.
