John Deere 955
The John Deere 955 is the bigger brother of the John Deere 855 garden tractor and the John Deere 755. The tractor was built abroad in John Deere’s factory in Japan. It gets it’s power from it’s Yanmar designed and built diesel engine. This 33 hp engine has 3 combustion chambers and natural aspiration. This 3 cylinder engine has a size of 1.4 liters and is liquid cooled by a system needing 2.3 liters of coolant. All this power is routed through a hydrostatic transmission box before it reaches the wheels. This gives the JD 955 an infinite number of gears going forward and in reverse. This also means that there is no need for a gear stick for changing gears, you just need to press harder down on the gas pedal to speed up or releasing it to slow down.
The fuel tank on the John Deere 955 has a capacity to hold 25 liters (6.6 US gallons) of diesel. The JD 955 has a category 1, 3 point hitch that has a maximum rear lifting capacity of 434 kg (957 lbs) allowing it to take many attachments used by landscapers and commercial garden contractors. Take the John Deere 7 backhoe for instance. This 356 kg (787 lbs) backhoe has a digging depth of 2.28 m (90 inches) and a loading height of 1.77 m (70 inches). The maximum bucket force of the John Deere 7 backhoe is 882 kg (1945 lbs). Other attachments include suitcase weights that can be attached to the front of the tractor for ballast.
The tractor is built on a 4×4 MFWD 4WD chassis that makes the total unballasted weight of the tractor 907 kg (2000 lbs). The wheelbase comes in at 1.62 m (64 inches). The John Deere 955 garden tractor also comes with a roll bar (ROPS) to protect the operator in case of accidental tipping of the tractor. Like the John Deere 855 compact lawn tractor, the John Deere 955 also comes with large, wide, soft lawn tires to prevent it from leaving marks on soft ground.
