John Deere 8850
The John Deere 8850 articulated tractor is the largest in the series that includes two other machines, the John Deere 8450 and the John Deere 8650 tractors. Some of the specs for this tractor are truly astonishing. It’s shipping weight comes to 17,000 kg (37,480 lbs) while it’s weight when fully operational is 17,100 kg (37,700 lbs). The total length of the JD 8850 is 6.54 m (257.8 inches). Even though the tractor is incredibly big, with a wheelbase of 3.37 m (133 inches), it still has a fairly decent minimum turning radius of 5.8 m. The largest wheels that are compatible with the tractor measure 30.5-32 (30.5 inch width, 32 inch rim diameter), while the smallest wheels compatible with the tractor measure 20.8-38 (20.8 inch width, 38 inch rim diameter). This tractor is routinely used with dual wheels attached.
The engine that powers the John Deere 8850 tractor is an 8 cylinder model that has a total displacement of 15.7 liters. The liquid cooling system for the engine is massive, holding 73.8 liters of water. Thanks to the fact that the engine in the JD 8850 has an intercooled turbocharger, the total output from the engine is a startling 370 hp. The engine fires at a compression ratio of 15.5 to 1. The oil reservoir in the engine holds 48.3 liters of oil. An engine this large uses a lot more fuel than your average 90 hp utility tractor. This is why the fuel tank can hold up to 908.4 liters (240 US gallons) of diesel.
The hitch on the John Deere 8850 is a category 4/4N. The hydraulics system powering it, gives it a maximum lifting capacity of 4649 kg (10,250 lbs). The hydraulic system has a capacity to hold up to 172.2 liters (45.5 US gallons) of hydraulic fluid. This is a closed system. The JD 8850 was superseded by the John Deere 8960 tractor, when it stopped being produced in 1988. You can review this tractor by filling out the form below.
