John Deere 8400
The John Deere 8400 is a massive pulling tractor from JD. It had a production run of 4 years from 1995 until 1999 when production ceased. After this it was then superseded by the John Deere 8410. The smaller version of the JD 8400 is the John Deere 8300. All production of the John Deere 8400 took place in the Waterloo plant which is located in Iowa. As it is a pulling tractor, it’s equipped with a powerful, 6 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine designed and built in house by John Deere at the Waterloo factory. This massive 8.1 liter engine was liquid cooled by a cooling system that needs 28.4 liters of coolant to fill it completely from empty. The engine needs 28 liters of oil to lubricate it and keep it operating at optimum capacity. This engine produces an amazing 252 hp.
All this power gets to the wheels through a John Deere PowerShift transmission box that has 16 gears for driving forwards and 4 gears for reversing. The tractor is supported on a 4×4 MFWD 4WD chassis. The hydrostatic power steering makes handling the JD 8400 very easy indeed, while it’s differential hydraulic, wet disc braking system means that you always maintain control. The massive 511 liter (135 US gallon) fuel tank allows operators to use the JD 8400 for extended periods of time without needing to be constantly brought in for refilling.
It’s category 3N, 3 point hitch has a maximum lift capacity of 7098 kg (15650 lbs). When the tractor is fully ballasted, it weighs a massive 13409 kg (29562 lbs), but without ballast it is considerably lighter at 8704 kg (19190 lbs). It’s wheelbase may seem very large at 2.96 m (117 inches) but this is merely due to the John Deere 8400 having dual wheels. If you own or operate a big tillage farm, the JD 8400 will be right up you street when it comes to farming it. It’s massive power and dual wheels mean that you will always be able to pull even the heaviest loads.
