John Deere 60 Inch Heavy Duty Rotary Broom
The John Deere 60″ Rotary Brooms is a heavy duty piece of cleaning and snow removing equipment. It is the upgraded version of the John Deere 52″ rotary broom and can be attached to the front of the John Deere X700 series of lawnmowers, the front of the John Deere 2000 series of compact tractors as well as the back of many other John Deere and other tractor models via the three point hitch in conjunction with an A frame adapter. As the name obviously tells you, the John Deere 60 inch rotary broom has a width of 60 inches or 1.52 meters. The diameter of this JD rotary broom measures in at 0.66 meters (26 inches).
This John Deere 60″ rotary broom is very versatile. During the winter it can handle shallow to medium depths of snow very well easily brushing them out of the way (although it struggles with deep snow drifts). But then during the spring it can be used to clear pathways and driveways of fallen debris. This is not forgetting it’s great ability to sweep up leaves during the autumn. It can also be used as a dethacther, removing unwanted moss from beneath grass.
The John Deere 60″ heavy duty rotary broom comes with some very nice features as standard. It connects to your tractor’s hydraulics system and uses it to change it’s angle by up to 30 degrees in both directions and thus deflect debris or snow away from the tractors path. The JD 60 inch broom doesn’t use an independent motor to get it’s power. Instead it uses the PTO on your tractor for power. Many users appreciate this JD rotary broom especially if they don’t ever deal with heavy snow as it is just very able in a wide range of different chores and tasks.

This 60″ Heavy Duty Broom has been a huge disappointment and is not a credit to the John Deere name brand.
This broom is used for roughly 90 days (2-3 hours/day) in the winter months to clear snow off of outdoor skating rinks. Any accumulation greater than 2″ we use either a blade or snow blower. It is not used on pavement. This broom was placed into service during the winter of 2011/2 and receives regular maintenance and inspections.
Within the first year we replaced the tapered hub(cast) on the broom head shatf as well as a PTO shaft under warranty.
Since, we have repaced this hub again as well as 2 PTO shafts.
While adjusting/replacing the chain drive we discovered that the drive shaft bearing had spun on the drive shaft and that the locking collar was missing one set screw and the other had not been seated properly. The drive shaft was damaged and required replacement as well. In winter 2016 we changed out the original broom core only to discover that the bearings on the core shaft had also not been set properly and had spun on the shaft causing damage. I was informed that bear collar set screws do back off on their own…We had the brush core weldmount rebuilt at a machine shop for 1/3 of the cost of a JD replacement. Most recently the rear seal on the gearbox input shaft began to leak and was replaced. Under no load the broom runs quiet but with any amount of drag it sounds as though it is about to come through the cab. The bearing on the input shaft is most likely failing.
What is most disappointing about this product is the lack of quality. Some of the problems we have experienced are poor design as well as poor quality control during assembly. The dealer has been helpful as much as possible but beyond the dealership regional office folks are not interested nor willing to take any responsibility.\ for this poor product.
2. There is no way to lubricate the chain. We drilled a hole through the shield to do this.
3. The PTO shaft uses a CV style joint on the broom input shaft. If the broom is used at an angle, this joint wears out quickly.regardless of the amount of grease used.
4. If needed, the gearbox can be rebuilt however John Deere does not sell the parts, only the gearbox.
4. Parts are ridiculously expensive.
