John Deere 4300

The John Deere 4300 is a small compact utility tractor produced over 5 years from 1998 until it ceased production and was superseded by the John Deere 4310 in 2003. It is classed as a compact farm tractor, but it can also be used quite effectively in gardens too. This is thanks in part to it’s Yanmar diesel engine. This 3 cylinder engine has a displacement of 1.5 liters and churns out 32 hp. It came off the assembly line with a choice of 3 transmissions. The first is with 9 gears going forward and 3 in reverse, the second is with both 12 speeds going foward and in reverse, while the third transmission type is hydrostatic which gives an infinite number of forward and reverse speeds.

Coming off the assembly line, the JD 4300 has a fuel tank capable of holding 37.9 liters (10 US gallons) of diesel. As well as having the rear PTO as standard, the John Deere 4300, also comes with the option of mid section PTO which is fantastic if you plan on using a mid mounted mower deck with it, otherwise there’s pretty much no need for the mid section PTO.

The total weight of the 4300 is 1360 kg (3000 lbs). The tractor is quite popular among small farmers and people who need a versatile vehicle for their farm, garden or land but it does have it’s fair share of problems too. The hood on the tractor is not made from metal, but instead is made from plastic. This means rather than denting from heavy blows, the plastic hood cracks, which has left some people a little cheesed off (a lot of JD lawnmowers have hoods that aren’t made from metal, but a compact tractor with a plastic hood seems kind of odd!) When all is said and done though, the John Deere 4300 compact utility tractor is still quite a good tractor.

    Excellent!

    Year of Manufacture: 2001
Pros: This tractor is very easy to operate. Can’t hardly keep my wife off of it! It has good power and quick hydraulics. It’s also easy on fuel. No complaints, no repairs so far at 1500 hrs.
Cons: Fuel gauge reads erratically. Seat cracked fairly quickly even with inside storage. Parking brake light stays on all the time, very difficult to adjust the switch.
Attachments: 430 loader, 5 ft rotary mower, 5 ft rear blade, 6 ft. 3 point cultivator.
