John Deere 430 Lawn Mower
The John Deere 430 lawn mower is often confused with the John Deere 430 tractor. However they are both very different. The JD 430 lawn mower is obviously designed for cutting the grass in your garden as opposed to tilling it! The 430 lawnmower had a long production run of 8 years from 1984 until it was shelved in 1992. The engine powering it is a Yanmar diesel engine that has a displacement of 0.885 liters. This 3 cylinder engine is liquid cooled and needs to be kept topped up with 3.8 liters of coolant to ensure that the engine is prevented from overheating. The dry type filter, preventing dust and other impurities from entering into the combustion chamber is replaceable. The total power output of this engine comes to 20 hp. A 12 volt battery is used to start the engine via a key start mechanism. Once the engine is running, it’s recharged by a 35 amp alternator.
The hydrostatic, 2 range transmission on the John Deere 430 lawnmower makes it an automatic giving it infinite speeds when traveling forwards and the same when it’s reversing. The gear box needs a lot of transmission oil, requiring 7.1 liters. Interestingly, the JD 430 is incredibly heavy. This John Deere mower weighs 530 kg (1170 lbs) which is very heavy for a lawnmower, but when you take into account that it’s a 3 cylinder diesel with a liquid cooling system, then it seems to make a bit more sense.
Each rear tire on the John Deere 430 measures 26×12-12 (26 inch diameter, 12 inch width, 12 inch rim diameter) while each front wheel measures in at 18×8.5-8 (18 inch diameter, 8.5 inch width, 8 inch rim diameter). The tires are so big so that they can evenly distribute the weight of the machine without leaving large tracks in the ground. There are a number of large mower decks that can be mid mounted to the JD 430. There are also snow blowers, front blades, baggers, utility carts and a whole host of other implements that can be attached to this machine.
