John Deere 4230
The John Deere 4230 is part of the ‘Generation 2’ series of tractors that John Deere produced many years ago. This tractor was rolling off the assembly line for 4 years from 1973 until 1977. It was designed as the replacement for the John Deere 4020. What is interesting about the JD 4230 is that you could also get a variation, that had a tricycle set up that was desirable among row crop farmers. The tractor was designed and built in the Waterloo facility in Iowa.
The tractor had a choice of 2 engines when ordering it. You could get it with a John Deere diesel engine. This is a 6 cylinder, natural aspiration engine that has a displacement of 6.6 liters and is liquid cooled. Or you could get it with a liquid cooled, gasoline engine. The maximum horsepower from either engine is 100 hp. This then powers the wheels through a choice of 3 transmissions. You can get it with John Deere Quad-Range partial power shift and synchronized transmission providing 16 speeds in forward motion and 6 speeds in reverse. Or you can get it with a John Deere PowerShift transmission that gives you only 8 forward gears and 4 reverse gears. Alternatively you can opt for a JD 4230 with a John Deere Syncro-Range transmission that will give you 8 forward gears and 2 in reverse.
The fuel tank on the John Deere 4230 has a capacity of 140 liters (37 US gallons). It measures 2.64 m (104 inches) at it’s widest point. The tractor weighs 4898 kg (10800 lbs) when operating normally, but when it’s fully ballasted, it weighs 6418 kg (14150 lbs), this is up from a shipping weight of just 3674 kg (8100 lbs) if it has a Synro-Range transmission. The shipping weight of the models without a Syncro-Range transmission is 3855 kg (8500 lbs). The turning radius on the JD 4230 is 3.4 m (11.3 feet). The JD 4230 is a popular model from John Deere and has a smaller version, the John Deere 4030 and bigger version, the 4430.

Very happy with this model. I do plan on doing the 12v conversion to the electrical system in the future. Purchased it for pushing snow and general yard work and am very happy with the purchase.
