John Deere 100F
Most people assume that JD just make tractors for use on large agricultural farms and ride on lawnmowers. However they also make a range of tractors for use in vineyards and orchards. The John Deere 100F is an example of these tractors. The JD 100F has a very low profile so that it doesn’t catch low hanging branches. You’ll even notice that the cab has a very low profile. It also has a very low center of gravity so that it’s more stable on slopes and inclines when compared to regular ‘farm’ tractors of a similar size and power.
The John Deere 100F gets all of it’s power from a 96 hp diesel engine. This engine is a Detroit Diesel model which is designed and manufactured by VM, which is itself a subsidiary of General Motors. The engine is a 4 cylinder and is turbocharged. It’s prevented from overheating through a liquid cooling system and has a total engine size of 2.9 liters. The JD 100F is specially designed to have a very low turning radius of just 2.9m, which is useful for navigating between difficult areas. The total weight of machine with an open operator’s station is 2520 kg (5556 lbs) when it’s being shipped.
As the John Deere 100F is designed as your average farm tractor, it’s not built in the United States in one of the usual production facilities like Waterloo or Horicon. Instead, all manufacture takes place in the Goldoni plant which is in Italy. Perhaps the JD 100F seems a little too powerful for you? If that’s the case you’ll be glad that there are also less powerful machines in the John Deere F series of orchard and vineyard tractors. These include the John Deere 76F and the John Deere 85F tractors.
