Husqvarna LGT2554

The engine that powers the Husqvarna LGT2554 garden tractor lawnmower is a Kohler designed and built model. This gasoline engine provides 25 horsepower (which you can hopefully guess from the name of the mower). The mower is key started using a 12 volt battery. The engine gets it’s gasoline from a fuel tank that can hold up to 15.1 liters (4 US gallons) of gas. Thankfully the LGT 2554 uses a hydrostatic transmission which means that you never have to worry about changing gears during operation. All speed control is done with the foot pedals. The hydrostatic gearbox gives the LGT 2554 a top speed of 9.7 kph (6 mph) going forwards and 4.8 kph (3 mph) when reversing.

The blades on the mower deck of the Husqvarna LGT2554 are engaged with an electric PTO. The mower deck is very large, with a cutting width of 54 inches. It houses 3 blades. The deck has an operating range of 3 inches from a high of 3.5 inches above the ground to a low of 0.5 inches above the ground. On the mower deck, you will notice 4 small, plastic wheels placed around the edge. These are anti-scalping wheels whose purpose is to keep the deck constantly elevated above the ground so that it doesn’t scrape it when it’s traveling over particularly uneven lawns.

The front wheels on the Husqvarna LGT2554 measure 16×6.5 (16 inch diameter, 6.5 inch width) and the rear tires each measure 22×9.5 (22 inch diameter, 9.5 inch width). The total length of the LGT 2554 is 72.8 inches. You will also be glad to know that it comes with a 2 year limited warranty to people who are purchasing it brand new. When buying it new, you also have the option of getting a rear bagger to collect the grass clippings or a mulching plug to turn the clippings into a nutritious mulch.

Purchased Model LGT 2554 From Lowes. After a little over 120hrs of use, left rear Axel snapped off needless to say was right after warranty ran out. Found new replacement axels on line installed them then TUFF TORQ trans axel stopped working was told from mower repair shop that is why Tuff Torq does not sale replacement Axels for k46 trans once you open trans to replace axels you can not purge the trans. that’s why they want you to buy whole new trans axel. Then I purchased the smaller YTH22V46 Husqvarna from lowe’s returned after using twice. JUNK JUNK JUNK. Would not recommend purchasing Husqvarna to any one! my son also purchased zero turn Husqvarna from lowe’s in first year of owning he had to replace his deck pulley’s I would not own another Husqvarna if you give it to me!

piece of shit quality from Husqvarna. Kohler engine top notch

    Year of Manufacture: 2010
Cons: I guess I join the club in thinking Husqvarna is a quality manufacture of tractors or Lowes for selling the garbage. Rear axle snapped off just like all other I have read about. Tractor only has 274 hours on it for 7 years old is not much.

Wow, I just purchased this mower LGT2554 last night. Just seen these reviews today. My bad. Should I just take off the trailer and sell it? I purchased it to take up north to a 6 acre property to use around the house as a finish mower. Have a cub cadet and Bobcat Ransome, and a Craftsman to share the job with.

My first Husqvarna product ever purchased.
Only has 156 hrs on it.

I bought a Husqvarna LGT2554. I thought because it’s retail price was $2500, it was a quality mower. Boy, was I wrong. Within the first month, the left rear wheel fell completely off. Shortly after, one of the front wheels fell off. Throughout the next year, I would randomly find parts that had fallen off all over my yard. Just the other day, the left rear wheel was really wobbly and the mower wouldn’t move. While trying to move the mower to my shed, it lost total control going down a hill. There was no steering, no brakes, nothing. It finally stopped rolling when I hit our fence.

The next day, I payed someone to haul the mower to a nearby repair shop. I was blown away by the estimate. The rear axle had snapped. He said that normally, it would be an easy fix. However, Husqvarna stopped selling transmission parts for this model because of a lot of problems. The only way to fix it would require a new transmission. Instead of costing approximately $100 for an axle, now will cost about $900 for a new transmission.

I was blown away by the number of complaints on-line for the exact same thing. Supposedly, My mower has a k46 transmission that requires a 1 inch axle. Husqvarna wanted to save a dollar and used a 3/4 inch axle instead…hence, axles snapping left and right.

I contacted Husqvarna, but got nothing. They played dumb and denied everything. They said they hadn’t heard of any complaints because of the same issue. Yeah right! They just kept transferring me to someone else and hanging up on me.

After giving up on them, I called Lowes. Wouldn’t you know, my extended protection plan had expired 23 days earlier and there is nothing I can do.

DO NOT buy Any Husqvarna products! They are absolute junk!

    Year of Manufacture: 2009
Pros: 25 hp Koehler engine has never let me down…always started right away
    Cons: Cheaply made

I ALSO BOUGHT THIS TRACTOR THING IT WAS A HEAVY DUTY
    GARDEN TRACTOR AS ADVERTISED.
HARD TO START AFTER WARM FROM DAY ONE.
TRANS SLIPS AFTER IT GETS HOT TO THE POINT IT WON’T CLIMB THE SMALLEST INCLINE.
NOW THE REAR AXLE BROKE OFF THE HEAVY DUTY TUFF-TORQ K46 TRANS AXLE. WITH 323.6 HRS = 13.5 DAYS OF USE AT 170.00 A DAY. IT COST ABOUT 700.00 TO FIX, WITH NO WAY OF KNOWING IF IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.
TUFF-TORQ CLAIMS THE WHEEL HUBS CAUSED THE AXLE TO BRAKE NEW HUBS ABOUT 115.00 ON TOP OF TRANS AXLE COST.
NO HELP FROM HUSQUAVARNA, TUFF-TORQ OR LOWE’S.
WILL NOT BUY HUSQUAVARNA ANYTHING AGAIN.

When I first got this tractor from Lowes I really Loved it I got a 1/3 acker size yard with a few spots that have slight grades and I thought I had a craftsman 19.5 before and I cut more often and even used it to do my parents yard to that lasted me 20 years before I bought this piece of junk.
And then 2 years after I got it the hydro decides that’s as far as we go.
So I went back to Lowes to find out what to do about it they told me
uh… to bad… your drive train Warranty just run out but we can send it out to replace tranny for 800 and some odd dollars. I said “what the” You mean to tell me this is how you do your customers. and they said Well sorry our hands are tied. you’d think for $2486.34 it should last forever. Now cutting lawn with old Faithfull.I should have just Bought new tier’s for my old tractor. Not PLEASED at ALL!

    very poor

    Year of Manufacture: 2011
    Pros: has ample power
Cons: have had trouble with restarting engine after initial start up, has always started when cold but restarting after warm up is a huge problem. machie has been back to repair shop twice already and is going out ounce again within a week. machine has only 29 hours on it and has had this problem from day one purchased from Lowes witch was a mistake.

    SUCKS

    Year of Manufacture: 2010
    Pros: NONE!!!!
Cons: I just bought this Rider mower (NOT a tractor!) just 11 mnths ago. Unfortunately it boasts a 25 hp motor that only sounds strong (LOUD). It’s NOT. It also has 3 cutting blades, but my little Craftsman rider mower has more power and way better cutting ability, as well as longivity (7 years and running). Another thing is the height. It looked good, and tall, but even on the highest level (7) it’s too low at times, acalps even a little ridge. All the ht settings are a joke. My little Craftsman cuts higher and better than it does. I just pulled the wheels because the bearings are shot after 11 mnths. Again my other mower didn’t need them replaced until about 3+ yrs. And not again, yet. I feel it’s a joke of a mower and for over $2000 I’m REALLY disappointed. I won’t buy another Husquavarna ANYTHING again. I wish I would of read these reviews before wasting precious money that I’m still paying out for the next 1-1/2 yrs or so. By then I’m sure the mower will be totally dead.

  15. george repasy says:

    very poor

    Year of Manufacture: 2009
    Pros: great kohler engine
Cons: no traction unless tire chains installed; sold by Lowes; Unless you buy Lowes extended warranty – wipe hands of problems; plastic drive pullies fail; transaxle failure; 138 hrs which equals 5-3/4 days usage; hydrostat lever will not stay in position; Lowes literature states heavy duty transmission which is consumer fraud because transmission manufacturer TuffTorq tells me that 46AW transaxles are light duty for level ground 1 acre or less. Lowes literature reads hilly rough terrain two or more acres. Now you tell me – Is this consumer fraud or what?

I purchased this mower in 2009 to cut my 3 acre lawn. Mower has been great, again it is a light tractor in a consumer price point. I have broke one spindle while cutting high grass going at 5 mph. The new spindle from amazon.com was 35 dollars to fix.

    Year of Manufacture: 2009
Pros: Strong engine and transmission. Unit provides a good cut for the price point this mower is in.
Cons: Large hills with an attachment on the rear can be challanging. I was using the stock tires when i had issues getting up a large hill in my yard. I changed the tires and it did work much better.

Attachments: Pull behind 44 inch mower.
    Modifications: n/a

  17. Jay says:

spindles easily break. Fuel pumps are cheap plastic vacuum type that are garbage. I bought this model because it said garden in the model…I assumed that the lgt stood for lawn garden tractor….Well, that is slightly misleading. The transmission in this tractor isnt fit for a washing machine. I bought an agrifab disc for a garden tractor and after a few passes the trans got so hot it just decided it was done moving until it cooled down. dirt wasnt wet either. Lost two spindles cutting deep grass. Had the deck all the way up and still I broke the outer spindle then the middle spindle after I fixed the outer. Bought the extended warranty from lowes, what a joke. Husquvarna said spindles broke from misuse….Guess asking it to actually cut grass is to much…Wont ever buy another husky tractor again. J.D. or nothing cause craftsman are made by husky and others are just junk.

    Year of Manufacture: 2009
    Pros: Runs nice. Cuts good
Cons: Not very well built. Deck is not easy to remove. would rather have a foot pedal than the the hand lever. Transmission not very strong.
    Attachments: Mower
Modifications: ag tires instead of turf tires

  18. Steve Adkisson says:

I hate to be “THAT” guy, but my experience with this mower has de-evolved to the point that I hate it. Sadly by extension I now hate Husgavarna in general, as customer service is the usual labyrinthian layers of tele-prompted consumer denial matrix. Yes some marketing guru will label me as an “outlier” in their statistical model but believe when I tell you this a BAD product. DO NOT BUY IT! RUN DO NOT WALK TO LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED JOHN DEER STORE. You may pay more at a smaller store but service after the sale is well worth it. If the earth were to open tomorrow and the entire Husgavarna manufacturing capability were destroyed it would be a bright day or humanity.

    Year of Manufacture: 2010
Pros: There are no pros to this mower. I purchased it in the spring of 2010, it has 14.1 hours on it. It has spent 5 times that in the shop. It gives a terrible cut when actually working. It scalps the crap out of anything that is not a level an bowling alley. It regularly drops its belts and the mower hangers are beyond fragile.
Cons: (See above) This is the worst 2399.00 I have ever spent. Lowes of course sees this coming and I wish I had bought there warranty on this immovable Lawn Turd not tractor. This machine will be put in the garage and parked then will not move. The V belt drive falls off if you look at it sideways and as you may guess it is about as easy to reach as the Human Kidney in surgery. Its “Floating deck” cuts horribly in any radius turns leaving a high outer edge.
