Cub Cadet GT2542
The Cub Cadet GT2542 ride on lawn mower is the first machine in the Cub Cadet Series 2500 of garden tractors. It has a mower deck with a 42 inch cutting width. It’s total width is a lot higher than this though due to the fact that the discharge flap protrudes from the side. The mower deck uses twin blades that are smaller but more efficient that just a single large blade. 4 wheels, one attached to each of the 4 outer edges prevent the mowing deck from scraping the ground that it’s cutting, when the mower deck is at a very low level. The mower deck can actually be lowered to just 1.5 inches from ground level to up to 4 inches from ground level. This is done with a spring-assisted, manual lever. The deck on the GT 2542 is highly unlikely to break or deflect much if it does encounter solid objects in it’s path as it’s made from 13 gauge steel.
On the Cub Cadet GT2542 lawnmower, you also have the option of mulching the grass clippings and so returning their nutrients to the soil. The GT 2542 uses a Smart Jet system which allows you to quickly and easily clean the mower deck after use.
The Command engine powering the Cub Cadet GT2542 lawnmower is built by Kohler and is a V twin cylinder motor that produces 20 hp. A hydrostatic transmission is used on the GT 2542 garden tractor to transfer power to the wheels. Your speed is controlled by how far down you press on the pedal with your foot. The top speed of the Cub Cadet GT2542 comes to 9.3 kph (5.8 mph). For a lawn mower that weighs in at 333 kg (735 lbs) it has a decent minimum turning radius of just 0.53 m (21 inches). Don’t forget that this Cub Cadet is much more that just a lawnmower. Thanks to attachments like a 42 inch, dual stage snow blower, baggers, rollers, sprayers and more, this mower is highly versatile both in the garden and on your driveway. If you are looking for similar ride on lawnmowers in the series, then have a look at the Cub Cadet GT2544 lawnmower or the Cub Cadet GT2550 garden tractor mower.

I bought this mower new in 2006, this year I need to replace the mower deck for the first time. Only part I have had to replace is the oil and filter 4 times yearly, and one battery. Best mower I have ever owned. Pulls almost anything, log splitter, trailer of wood (face cord), use to spread fertilizer and seed, its fantastic. I think I had to put an innertube in one of the front wheels because I drove over a nail. Other than that it been perfect. Mouse even made a home in the fly wheel one winter, took half day to pick out all the grass he moved in, but fires right up every spring.
slow but good cutting mower

some times it almost has been used as a bushog.
