Cub Cadet FMZ42 SD
The Cub Cadet FMZ42 SD zero turn lawn mower is the smaller, slightly less powerful model of the Cub Cadet FMZ50 SD lawnmower. The FMZ42SD gets it’s power from a Kohler engine with overhead valves. This is a single cylinder model that uses a standard type air filter to clean the air intake and prevent dust and other particles from getting into the engine where they can potentially clog it. The engine on the FMZ42-SD uses two HG2800 hydrostatic transmissions to make it an automatic. This thankfully means that you never have to worry about changing gears on it.
The most interesting thing about the Cub Cadet FMZ42 SD zero turn lawn mower is the fact that it has 5 wheels (not counting the anti scalping gauge wheels on the mower deck edges). The single front wheel is just a semi-pneumatic castor wheel, while the rear wheels are fully pneumatic and responsible for steering it. They each measure 15×6 (15 inch diameter, 6 inch width). The wheels in the middle are the ones through which power is transferred to drive the FMZ42SD lawn mower either forwards or in reverse. These each measure 20×8 (20 inch diameter, 8 inch width). The top speed of the FMZ42-SD is 9 kph (5.6 mph) going forwards and 4.5 kph (2.8 mph) when it’s reversing.
The mower deck on the Cub Cadet FMZ42 SD zero turn lawn mower has a cutting width of 42 inches thanks to 2 identical blades. The floating deck uses a set of 4 anti scalping gauge wheels attached to the edges to keep it from catching the ground/lawn as it travels over it. The deck has an operating range of 3.5 inches from a high of 4.5 inches above the ground (when the grass is particularly thick or damp) down to a low of just 1 inch above the ground (when you are looking for a very close cut).
