Craftsman GT6000
The Craftsman GT6000 garden tractor lawn mower is a large and very powerful machine. The machine is incredibly similar to the likes of the Craftsman GT5000 lawn tractor. This is because they both have the same power output of 26 hp as well as the same sized mower deck of 54 inches. The GT 6000 uses a very large gasoline powered engine. This is a Kohler Pro Courage model that has a displacement of 0.725 liters. It’s prevented from overheating using an air cooling system. This twin cylinder model uses a fully pressurized lubrication system to keep it oiled throughout operation. As already mentioned, it’s total power output comes to 26 hp. The fuel tank on the mower can hold up to 15.1 liters (4 US gallons) of gas.
This power is then transferred to the wheels on the Craftsman GT6000. This is done with a hydrostatic transmission that gives the GT 6000 infinite speeds going forwards and in reverse also. It’s speed is controlled using a foot pedal and it’s top speed is 12.1 kph (7.5 mph). The rear wheels that the engine drives measure 23×10.5-8 (23 inch diameter, 10.5 inch width, 8 inch rim diameter), while the front wheels which are responsible for steering the lawn mower each measure 16×6.5-6 (16 inch diameter, 6.5 inch width, 6 inch rim diameter).
The mower deck on the Craftsman GT6000 has a cutting width of 54 inches, as previously mentioned. This deck is made from 12 gauge steel and inside there are 3 blades in total. In total, there are 12 different cutting heights for this mower deck so that you will always be able to get the height that you want. There are a number of features on this mower that add to it’s overall functionality. These include things like cruise control as well as an hourmeter so that you can accurately gauge when you next need to service it.

Just an all out tough machine still on the original fuel pump starter ect even my seat is original . I run synthetic oil and I always put sea foam in the fuel before winter storage .
This machine does everything I have asked of it. I have 2 1/4 acres with some hilly terrain and using the mulching feature, it cuts the lawn leaving a golf course like finish. I bought it brand new In a crate and the only problem I had was in the first 25 hours of use it started leaking oil from the head gasket. Sears sent their mobile mechanic to my house and he replace the engine gasket. Never used a drop of oil since, and I work it pretty hard. It does what it is designed to do plus some. Yes I could use a larger tractor at times when I need a tree stump or two removed. It has a great turning radius to get in tight areas, and at times the cruise control comes in handy. I plan on getting a sleeve hitch and rear blade for it. I do still have the stock tires and use chains on it. Good tractor for the money.
Purchased this replacing a smaller riding mower with the intent of using in the yard around the house as well as to manage a larger acreage. What I discovered is that with the 54″ deck, there isn’t enough adjustment to raise the deck high enough to get out of trouble if the ground you’re mowing is anything more than mildly uneven ground (it works hills and grades just fine, but not uneven). The lack of deck clearance combined with lack of posi-traction make this a poorer choice for non-urban yards. Due to the lack of upward deck clearance it’s also impossible to work on the blades without jacking the rear (or front) of the tractor way up.
It’s a large machine with plenty of power and with 3 blades, 26 hp and the triple bagger it makes lightning quick work of leaf clean-up. They could also have made the oil change set-up a little more user-friendly. Bottom line, it’s a fantastic mower for your reasonably smooth, larger urban yard, but don’t even bother if it’s rough and uneven.
does a fine job lawn mowing if the terrain is fairly flat and will do hilly terrain but smokes going down hill if the oil level is on the full mark…as far as snow plowing…it’s ok…not enough weight even with the extra weight bar of 150 lbs…can get stuck fairly easy as the rear wheels do not lock up and if one spins your done…i live in northern maine and we get SNOW…i have had to get my 4 wheel drive pickup to pull it out several times…if i had known all this i would have bought a compact tractor…sure it would have cost me about $15000 more but i would have 4 wheel drive and a loader as well…when all is said and done it is a nice lawn tractor and small garden tractor but not for any thing mid level and above…
