John Deere 2400
The John Deere 2400 tractor is from the ‘2000 series’ of tractors that first appeared in the nineties. This ‘2000 series’ is not to be confused with the much more recent 2000 series of tractors that includes the John Deere 2305 and John Deere 2520 tractors. The JD 2400 is a reasonably light machine, tipping the scales at 1202 kg (2650 lbs). The tractor is built on a choice of either a 4X2 2WD or a 4X4 MFWD 4WD chassis. If you buy the tractor built on the 4WD chassis, you will be paying a little more and it will also weigh a bit more too. The tractor also has a choice of coming with either an open operator’s station or a cab.
The John Deere 2400 tractor was designed by John Deere but unlike practically all other JD tractors, it was not built by JD. Instead all production of the tractor took place in Brno which is located in the Czech Republic. The manufacturer that built it is called Zetor. The engine they put into the tractor is a turbo charged diesel. This is a 4 cylinder engine that has a total displacement of 3.9 liters. The engine is rated at 2200 RPMs and has a max power output of 81 hp. Like on the rest of the tractors from the 2000 series, the JD 2400 has a gearbox that gives it 10 gears going forwards but only 2 for reversing.
The rear hitch on the John Deere 2400 tractor is a category 2 which is capable of working with a large array of attachments. The attachments can draw power from a rear independent PTO that works at 540 RPMs. The JD 2400 tractor is a handy machine to have on your farm (if it’s a small farm) as it is very versatile and capable of a number of different jobs.
