John Deere 4630
The John Deere 4630 tractor is part of a range of tractors that also includes the John Deere 4230 and the John Deere 4430 tractors. These are all part of the Generation 2 range. The engine that powers the JD 4630 is a designed and built by JD themselves. This engine is a 6 cylinder model that is liquid cooled. The engine uses a dual paper element air filter to purify the air intake and stop small particles from getting into the combustion chambers where they have the potential to clog the engine and lower it’s performance. The engine fires at a compression ratio of 16:1. It’s total displacement is 6.6 liters. The max power output from the engine is 150 hp.
The fuel tank on the John Deere 4630 is very big, capable of holding up to 246 liters (65 US gallons) of diesel. The JD 4630 is a real work horse that is built with a category 3, 3 point hitch. The maximum safe lifting capacity of this hitch comes in at 2385 kg (5260 lbs). The total weight of this tractor is 7271 kg (16,250 lbs), but with ballast attached, it’s weight is considerably higher. Each rear tire measures 18.4-38 (18.4 inch width, 38 inch rim diameter) while the front wheels each measure 10-16 (10 inch width, 16 inch rim diameter).
The closed center hydraulics system on the John Deere 4630 powers the rear hitch as well as the optional front end loader. The wheels are powered by the engine passing power through one of 3 different gearboxes. The first is a JD Synchro-Range partially synchronized transmission that gives it 8 forward and 2 gears for reversing. The second choice is the JD Quad-Range partial power shift transmission that gives the JD 4630 16 forward and 6 reversing speeds. The last option is a JD PowerShift gearbox that gives it 8 forwards and 4 reverse gears.
