John Deere 820
Before there is any confusion, we’d just like to point out that there are 2 distinct tractors known as the John Deere 820. The first is part of the series that also includes the John Deere 620 and the John Deere 720 tractors that had a production period that lasted 3 years from 1956 until 1958. The second is the JD 820 that was produced later from 1968 until 1973 (you can find information about this ‘later’ John Deere 820, by clicking here). The article you are reading right now is about the 820 that was built from ’56 until ’58. The engine that powers this model is a John Deere designed and built model that has a displacement of 7.7 liters (quite a large tractor for back them). The engine is a twin cylinder model and features a liquid cooling system that needs 7.6 liters of water to fully fill it from empty.
The rear wheels power the John Deere 820 forward, while the front wheels are responsible for steering it. The rear wheels each measure 15-34 (15 inch width, 34 inch rim diameter) while the front wheels each measure 7.5-18 (7.5 inch width, 18 inch rim diameter). The engine powers the rear wheels through an unsynchronized transmission that gives it 6 speeds going forwards and 1 in reverse.
The fuel tank on the JD 820 can hold up to 123 liters (32.5 US gallons) of fuel. It can work with a large range of implement that can be attached to it’s category 1 rear hitch. The total weight of the John Deere 820 tractor comes to 3560 kg (7850 lbs). From end to end, it measures 3.62 m (143 inches) in length. While this tractor is a very old one, it is still very much a classic and you will often see it either still in use on farms today or kept in pristine condition as a collectors item.
