John Deere 3020
The John Deere 3020 tractor is a larger version of the John Deere 2020 tractor. There is a choice of 4 engines that come with the JD 3020 as standard. All 4 engines were built by JD themselves and range in engine size from 3.7 liters up to 4 liters. All four engines are 4 cylinder models. Their fuel varies from gasoline to diesel to LP gas depending on the engine. All 4 engines use a liquid cooling system to keep the engine from overheating. The engines are all keystarted. The engine powers the wheels of the 3020 through a choice of 2 different transmission systems. The first is a partially synchronized, Syncro-Range transmission that gives the tractor 8 gears going forwards and 2 in reverse, with a top speed of 28.2 kph (17.5 mph).
The other transmission choice on the John Deere 3020 tractor is a full powershift ‘Power Shift’ gearbox that gives it 8 gears traveling forwards and 4 for reversing. This gearbox setup gives the tractor a max speed of 26.4 kph (16.4 mph) going forwards. The fuel tank on the JD 3020 can hold up to 109.8 liters (29 US gallons). The steering system is power assisted to make it easier and the hydraulic system can hold up to 17 liters (4.5 US gallons). Controlling the speed of the tractor is done through a system of differential hydraulic wet disc brakes.
The rear 3 point hitch on the John Deere 3020 is a category 2 allowing it to work with a large range of implements and attachments (just remember to ballast up first). The maximum safe ballasted weight of this tractor comes to 4347 kg (9585 lbs). The length of the JD 3020 without attachments comes to 3.51 m (138.5 inches). It’s width is 2.27 m (89.6 inches). The front wheels measure 6.5-16 (6.5 inch width, 16 inch rim diameter) while the rear wheels measure 15.5-38 (15.5 inch width, 38 inch rim diameter). This is a great machine. Our 3020 was bought new the year I was born and I learned to drive on it when i was a teen. I suspect that it will still be running after I am long gone. In 40 years the only repairs it has needed were a new water pump and a starter solenoid.
