Craftsman 28904 42 Inch 20 HP Lawn Tractor
The Craftsman 28904 42 Inch 20 HP garden tractor lawn mower is a mid sized tractor mower from the guys at Craftsman. The 42 inch mower deck on this model is actually over 50 inches wide in total when you account for the proctective plastic discharge flap located on the side of the deck. The cutting width is 42 inches. The deck houses 2 blades and is made form 13 gauge steel. The mower deck has small plastic wheels attached to the leading edge. The purpose of these is to make sure that the deck does not scratch or dig into your lawn with it’s blades. The blades are belt driven. The deck is raised and lowered using a spring assisted hand lever from a low of 1.5 inches above your lawn to a high of 4 inches.
While the standard way for dealing with the grass clippings on the Craftsman 28904 lawnmower is to just discharge them out the side, you can also attach either a rear bagger to collect them (either a 2 bin or 3 bin bagger). On the front of this 20 horse power lawn mower, you also have the option of attaching either a front blade or even snow blower which means that it remains useful even during the winter. The #28904 comes with headlights as standard which means that you can operate it even when it’s dark. So if it snows overnight, you can use it to clear snow before it gets bright outside. The total weight of this mower comes to 235.9 kg (520 lbs).
If you are looking for something with a bit more power than the Craftsman 28904 42″ lawn mower, then you should take a look at the Craftsman 28981 Professional 26 hp 50″ tractor mower, while if it’s something that has less power and is a good bit cheaper, then you will like the Craftsman 28001 12.5 HP 30 Inch Lawn Mower.

I have certainly gotten my money’s worth out of this mower. I had to replace the deck and starter last year but after 15 years of almost year round use, it owes me nothing.
The tight turning radius is an added bonus. And since the hood hinges gave out a couple years ago and I removed the hood altogether, now it is even more maneuverable in tight spaces.
The hood hinges gave out so now I have no hood.
