Craftsman 13AL78ST299 21 HP 46 Inch
The Craftsman 13AL78ST299 21 HP 46 Inch garden tractor lawnmower is a little less powerful than a lot of the other garden tractors that Craftsman produce, like the Craftsman 28981 Professional 26 hp 50″ or the Craftsman 28672 Professional 42 Inch 24 HP Lawn Mower lawnmower. The mower deck on the 13 AL 78ST299 lawnmower has a cutting width of 46 inches. This deck houses 2 blades and is made from 12 gauge steel. The mowing deck is free floating and uses the 2 anti scalping wheels attached to it’s leading edge to guide it smoothly over the lawn. The deck has only 5 different operating heights from a low of 1.5 inches above the ground to a max height of 4 inches above the ground. The mower deck is fairly easy to raise and lower thanks to a spring assisted hand lever.
For dealing with the grass clippings from the mower deck on the Craftsman 13AL78ST299 21 hp 46″ lawnmower, you have 3 options. Many people purchase the rear bagger attachment to collect them. However you can also optionally mulch the grass so that it rots quicker and returns it’s nutrients to the soil. The third and easiest option is to just discharge the grass clippings back onto the lawn (although this sometimes makes for a bit of an eyesore).
The 21 hp engine powering the Craftsman 13AL78ST299 garden tractor is a single cylinder model that has a total size of 0.54 liters. The engine transfers power to the wheels through a continuously variable transmission so that you never have to worry about using a clutch. There are disk brakes to slow the lawnmower down, although you’ll find that you’ll rarely need to use them. The total weight of this 21 horsepower lawnmower from Craftsman comes in at 240.4 kg (530 lbs). This is the worst tractor I have ever had. Under powered, eats belts, replaced two transaxle fans and drive belts. Replaced head gasket, tires are leaking air through side walls. This is just a rebadged Husqvarna and uses Husky part nos. I have always been told Huskys were good products, WRONG!!!!
