The Toro LX500 garden tractor lawn mower is a really powerful lawnmower. While some mowers have engines with their horsepower in the high teens, the Kohler Courage engine that powers the LX 500 produces 22 hp. The OHV engine comes with an oil filter and a full pressure lubrication system. The fuel tank that supplies the engine with gasoline can hold up to 11.4 liters (3 US gallons). The operator uses a continuously variable transmission on the lawnmower to change it’s speed. This transmission system give the LX500 a top speed of 8.9 kph (5.5 mph) when traveling forwards. When it’s reversing it has a top speed of 3.7 kph (2.3 mph).Similar tractor mowers to this one are the Toro LX466 and the Toro LX468 lawnmowers.

The wheels that drive the Toro LX500 forwards are the rear wheels. These each measure 20×10 (20 inch diameter, 10 inch width). The front wheels which steer the LX 500 each measure 15×6 (15 inch diameter, 6 inch width). The steering wheel has a diameter of 13 inches and is soft. This is great for commercial landscapers as it means that there hands won’t get too tired or sore after long hours of continuous use.

The mower deck that comes with the Toro LX500 has a 50 inch cutting width and houses 3 blades. You can also purchase other sized mower decks (both wider and narrower). You can control the height of the mower deck from a low of 1.5 inches above the lawn that you’re cutting up to 4 inches above your lawn. You’ll notice some small anti scalping wheels that are attached to the front of the leading edge of the mower deck. The purpose these serve is to force the deck to follow the contours of the lawn, thus avoiding scraping it. At the rear of the LX500 you can attach a grass collector to collect all the grass clippings instead of leaving them to rot on your lawn. You can also attach a snow blower and front blade to the front of it.
