John Deere 9230
The John Deere 9230 tractor is from the John Deere 9030 series of enormous tractors designed specifically with pulling in mind. All production of the tractor takes place in JD’s Waterloo plant in Iowa where it has been produced since 2007. The engine that powers the JD 9230 is a massive PowerTech model that John Deere have designed and built themselves. This engine produces a whopping 325 hp. This is thanks to it’s variable geometry turbocharger that has air to air after cooling and exhaust gas recirculation. The liquid cooling system responsible for preventing the engine from getting too hot has a capacity to hold up to 47.3 liters of coolant. The dual paper element air filter works efficiently to scrub the air of particulate matter before it enters the combustion chamber.
Power from the engine on the John Deere 9230 is transferred to the wheels through a choice of transmissions. One choice is a JD PowerShift gearbox that gives the tractor 18 speeds going forward and 6 for reversing, which gives the tractor a top speed of 38.5 kph (23.9 mph). The other choice is a JD PowrSync gearbox that gives the JD 9230 24 speeds in forwards and 6 gears for reversing. This PowrSync transmission gives the tractor a top speed of 34.3 kph (21.3 mph).
The 3 point hitch at the rear of the John Deere 9230 is a category 4N/3 which has a maximum safe lifting capacity of 6940 kg (15,300 lbs). This machine is only available with a 4WD chassis which gives it a minimum turning radius of 4.45 m. The total weight of the JD 9230 comes to 15,592 kg (32,170 lbs) without any ballast. Obviously this weight is going to vary quite a bit, especially when you consider that the fuel tank can hold 1325 liters (350 US gallons) of diesel. Similar, but more powerful models to this one include the John Deere 9330 and the John Deere 9430 tractors.
