The John Deere Gator XUV 855D is not quite as powerful as the likes of the John Deere Gator XUV 825i, but it’s slightly more powerful than the John Deere Gator XUV 625i 4×4 utility vehicle. The engine that powers the JD XUV855D is a 3 cylinder, diesel engine. This 4 stroke engine pumps out 25 hp and has a displacement of 0.854 liters. It uses a full pressure lubrication system to keep all the moving parts fully oiled. It’s prevented from overheating thanks to a liquid cooling system. The air intake on this lawnmower is a passed through a dry type, single element air filter to remove any impurities from it. The 12 volt battery used to start the engine is recharged by a 40 amp alternator.

The fuel tank on the John Deere Gator XUV 855D can hold up to 20.1 liters (5.3 US gallons) of diesel and has a very low consumption rate, so you won’t find yourself constantly refilling it. The gear box that transfers power from the engine to the wheels is a continuously variable transmission that gives the JD XUV 855D infinite speeds over 2 ranges. This gearbox gives it a top speed of 51 kph (32 mph) when traveling forwards and it can reach up to 24 kph (15 mph) in reverse.
