The John Deere WE85 walk behind push mower is very similar to the John Deere WE80 push lawnmower in many ways. The differences between the two machines are quite minor. However the John Deere G15 is a much bigger machine. The JD WE85 uses a 0.179 liter Kawasaki engine too. This engine has an operating speed of 330 RPM. This mower is self propelled and has 3 different speeds, ranging from 3.9 kph (2.4 mph) to 6.6 kph (4.1 mph).

The total height of the John Deere WE85 from ground level is 1.02 m (40 inches) while it measures 0.91 m (36 inches) long. It’s cutting width comes in at 21 inches, even though the total width of the machine is actually a fraction bigger at 22 inches. The weight of the the JD WE85 is 61.7 kg (136 lbs). The blade on the mower is crankshaft driven and the blade speed (when measured at the tip) isĀ  18,400 fpm.

When buying the John Deere WE85 brand new from a JD, you can get it with a 2 year year warranty if you are purchasing it for personal use. However if you are purchasing it for commercial use, then there is only a one year warranty available. If you have a garden that is anywhere from 0.25 to 1.25 acres in size, then the JD WE85 will be adequate for the job. However if your garden happens to be bigger than this, then you should consider getting a larger lawn mower than this, possibly even a ride on lawnmower. If you own or have used a WE 85, then others would appreciate knowing more about it. So please leave a review of it below making sure to mention both the pros and cons of it as well as any other comments that you have on it.

I have had this mower for about a month and its built like a tank. It is also a pull start with no battery so it doesnt have one extra thing to go wrong with it, and the pull start is SUPER EASY, choke it and pull it once and she’s alive. Even has an oil filter on it which is a first for me to see a push mower with an oil filter. The mower makes a really nice cut whether you mulch or bag. I tried mulching and the clutch would engage to cut the blade off from the mower from time to time because I only mow once a week. If you’re gonna mulch, make sure you dont let your grass get longer than about half an inch. I bag instead and the only time it engages is when the bag is full which is nice cuz it lets you know its full and needs to be emptied. The motor itself is actually quite quiet and really hums along. Even under a substantial load the 179cc motor just chums along with little problem. without bogging. The drive system is smooth and you can change speeds on the fly. The dealer asked me if I wanted to have a mower that would virtually last a lifetime and said this was that mower. The kawasaki engine is supposed to be better than the mass produced cheaply made B&S. Mower is a bit on the pricey side, I got mine for about 1200 bucks but if it lasts me 20 years I guess it was worth it, we shall see. It is commercial grade and seems well built. Only complaint is that its heavy to lug around say pulling it back towards you, but aside from that I like it.

I just got the WE85 yesterday. Havne’t had hardly any time with it, but I can already tell you that it is well built. It’s built like a tank. And the Kawasaki speaks for itself.
