John Deere JS46
The John Deere JS46 walk behind, self propelled lawn mower is the mac daddy of push lawnmowers in the JS series from John Deere. It is more powerful than the John Deere JS26 lawn mower or the John Deere JS36 lawnmower. Although it uses the same 0.19 liter, Briggs and Stratton engine as the other 2, it manages to get 8.75 ft-lbs of torque from it, instead of the 7 ft-lbs of torque that the other 2 get. This engine also differs from the other 2 machines in that it uses a key starting mechanism to start the engine instead of the sometimes laborious pull cord recoil starting system.
However, like the John Deere JS26 self propelled lawn mower and the John Deere JS36 lawnmower, the John John Deere JS46 does not need a gear stick to control it’s speed. Instead the transmission is completely automatic meaning that if you do need to change speed or direction, all you need to do is simply adjust the drive handle. The actual mower deck part of the machine is highly durable, thanks in part to the fact that it has been constructed from high strength 14 gauge steel. The blade responsible for cutting the grass has been specifically designed so that it can either mulch the grass (with a mulching plug inserted), discharge it out the side of the mower or force it into a bagger that can be optionally attached to the back of the JD JS46.
The John Deere JS46 walk behind lawn mower is perfect for most small grass cutting jobs (i.e. homes with gardens that are under 1 acre in size), but if you need to cut lawns that are bigger than this, you might consider investing in a ride on lawnmower.

I would recommend this model to my friends but would mention the
downside of the sump oil problem.
very erratic drive and would not engage on a slope. The walk behind
speed is very comfortable and consistant.
on capacity.
snow blower. Also need a dipstick that reads the oil sump level more
accurately.
Very satisfying machine to cut with and I love the engine!
The worse purchase of a John Deere product.
Have an LS Deere and is the best ever but is fifteen years old.
