John Deere X540
The John Deere X540 lawn mower is from the John Deere X500 series of garden tractors as are the bigger versions of it, the John Deere X585 and the John Deere X595 lawn mowers. The JD X540 has a Kawasaki FD731V gasoline engine. This 2 cylinder engine has natural aspiration and a displacement of 0.7 liters. This model needs just 3 liters of coolant running through it’s liquid cooling system to prevent the engine from over heating and not preforming properly. The power output from the engine is a massive 26 hp, which means that it can easily accommodate it’s 54 inch mower deck, even it needs to cut through long wet grass.
The mower deck itself incorporates the John Deere Edge Extra cutting system that allows it to efficiently mulch cut grass, spew it out the side or collect it in a rear bagger that has a volume of up to 8 bushels. The Kanzaki K74A hydrostatic transmission on the John Deere X540 makes operating the garden tractor lawnmower very easy indeed as no gear changing is ever needed. All you ever need to do to adjust the speed in order to change the amount of pressure you are putting on the TwinTouch pedal. The top speed on the JD X540 is a reasonable 7.2 mph, while in reverse it can manage a very respectable 5.4 mph.
Thanks to it’s extra strong steel welded frame, the John Deere X540 lawnmower can accommodate a wide array of different attachments, on both it’s extra strong CargO Mount attachment points. These range from box blades to sprayers, disc harrows, mid mounted blades, front blades and range of snow removal equipment (44 inch, 46 inch and 47 inch snowblowers and snow blades). The JD X540 weighs in at 327 kg (721 lbs) without any attachments or mower deck. It is 2 m (79 inches) long and 1.04 m (41 inches) wide.
