John Deere 4520
The John Deere 4520 actually refers to 2 different John Deere tractors. The original is the first tractor model from John Deere that came with a turbocharger as standard. This was needed as the JD 4520 was (and still is) used primarily a workhorse, pulling tractor. The more modern model is the 4520 compact tractor. This article will cover both tractors. First the original tractor, then the newer, compact tractor.
The Original – The original John Deere 4520 was built at the Waterloo plant in Iowa for just one year, from 1969 until 1970. During this time, over 7,500 of them were produced. They all came with a 6 cylinder, John Deere diesel engine as standard which pumps out 123 hp. This had a displacement of 6.6 liters and as previously mentioned was also turbocharged. The engine has a liquid cooling system that requires 26.5 liters of coolant to work properly. The power produced by the engine is transmitted via a choice of transmissions. The first is the partially synchronized, Syncro-Range transmission which gives it 8 gears going forward and 2 in reverse. The other choice is Power Shift transmission which gives 8 forward speeds and 4 in reverse. The maximum speed that the original John Deere 4520 can achieve is 21 mph. It has a choice between a category 2 and category 3, 3 point hitch. As this is such a powerful tractor, you’d be right in guessing that it weighs a lot too. Once fully ballasted, the John Deere 4520 weighs 8162 kg (17995 lbs).
The New Model – The new John Deere 4520 is a 60 hp compact tractor. It’s engine is made in house by John Deere and is a 4 cylinder PowerTech model and comes with 4WD as standard. The new model comes with the choice of either a ComfortGard Cab or with just a roll bar. On top of having a rear PTO as standard, the new JD 4520 also comes with the option of a mid PTO which will allow you to attach a mid-mounted mowing deck up to 72 inches across for cutting large areas. Obviously as this is a compact, you also have the choice of additional attachments and implements such as a front end loader, box blade, brush, harrow, snowblowers/throwers as well as many more.

Used for mowing, road repair, dirt moving. Seems well suited for my needs.
What a lemon and the service from the dealer is even worse
