John Deere 4240
The John Deere 4240 utility tractor is part of the same Iron Horse range that also includes the John Deere 4440 and the John Deere 4040 tractors. This tractor is very versatile, capable of using a number of front loaders while it’s rear hitch (category 2/1) can work with a large range of implements and attachments, whether they be tillers, rotovators or backhoes. The maximum safe rear lifting capacity on this hitch is 3069 kg (6766 lbs). The hydraulics system on the JD 4240 is closed and holds up to 41.6 liters of hydraulic fluid. The engine that powers the hydraulics system is a diesel built by JD themselves.
This engine fires at a compression ratio of 17:1 and is kept from overheating through a large liquid cooling system that has a capacity to hold up to 28.4 liters of water. The engine is a 6 cylinder model that has a total displacement of 7.6 liters. If is naturally aspirated. The engine on the John Deere 4240 has dual dry element air filter to clean the air intake of impurities that have the potential to clog the engine and hinder performance. The engine on the JD 4240 is key started using a 12 volt battery. The maximum power output from the engine is 110 hp.
The standard John Deere 4240 model comes with a 4X2 2WD chassis, but there is the option of getting it with a 4X4 MFWD 4WD chassis, so make sure that if you are buying a second hand model, you check to see whether it’s a 2WD or 4WD model. There is a slight variation of the JD 4240 called the John Deere 4240H. Both tractors are virtually the same except that the JD 4240H has a higher ground clearance. Please leave your thoughts on both the 4240 and the 4240H in a review below.
